Mental Illness

Mental illness is a health condition that affects how a person thinks, feels, behaves, and relates to others. It occurs when normal mental functioning is disturbed for a prolonged period, leading to distress or difficulty in carrying out everyday activities such as working, studying, maintaining relationships, or taking care of oneself. Likewise kidney, liver, and heart get ill and need proper treatment, so does the brain. Mental illness are not signs of weakness, lack of willpower, or personal failure; they result from a combination of biological factors (brain chemistry and genetics), psychological experiences (stress or trauma), and social influences (family, environment, and life events). Listed below are some instances of mental illness that we are gonna talk briefly.

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)

OCD is a condition where a person’s mind gets stuck on unwanted thoughts and pushes them to repeat certain actions to feel temporary relief, even when they know it doesn’t truly help.

Schizophrenia

Schizophrenia is a chronic psychiatric disorder marked by disturbances in thinking, perception, emotions, and behavior, often including delusions, hallucinations, disorganized speech, and impaired functioning.

Autism

Autism Spectrum Disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition characterized by differences in social communication and interaction, along with restricted or repetitive behaviors, interests, or sensory sensitivities.

Alzheimer's disease

Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder characterized by a gradual decline in memory, cognitive functions, and behavior due to damage and loss of brain cells.

Depression

Depression (Major Depressive Disorder) is a mental health condition marked by persistent low mood, loss of pleasure, changes in sleep and appetite, fatigue, impaired concentration, and feelings of worthlessness, lasting at least two weeks or more.

Bipolar disorder

Bipolar disorder is a condition where a person’s mood swings between extreme highs and deep lows, affecting energy, thinking, and behavior.
